Orin & Rosa Kidd

Kidd Family

Orin and Rosa came to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ in 1971. At that time Orin was working with the United States Forest Service on the Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon. From the very outset of their new faith in Christ, there was a strong desire to serve the Lord in a cross-cultural context amongst people who had not yet had the opportunity to hear the gospel. In order to prepare for cross-cultural ministry, Orin and Rosa attended Prairie Bible College from 1972 to 1976.

In 1975, Orin and Rosa became members of World Team (at the time Regions Beyond Missionary Union), and in 1977, following graduation from Prairie and linguistic training at the University of Washington, the Kidd’s, along with their two sons, left for Irian Jaya, Indonesia, (now West Papua) where they spent 22 years working with the Kimyal tribe in the Eastern Highlands.

Orin’s ministry included church planting, discipleship, leadership development, and four and a half years as Field Director. Rosa was involved in women’s ministry and literacy work. In 1994, Rosa took responsibility for the translation of the Kimyal New Testament, completing the translation in November of 2009. The New Testament Dedication took place on March 16, 2010 (a 10 minute version of a 30 minute DVD documenting the NT dedication can be found on youtube under “Kimyal New Testament”).

After 30 years with World Team, Orin and Rosa resigned from World Team to begin a new ministry role as the Pastor of Global Outreach at Grace Bible Fellowship in Tangent, Oregon, where they have served for 11 years. Orin has also been teaching a mission class at Corban University.

The Kidd’s are now in the process of transitioning from a paid staff position with GBF to a “GBF Sent Missionary” status. In their new ministry focus, Orin and Rosa, will leave for Papua, on the 28th of this month (August 2017). They plan to spend nine months in Papua, where Rosa will serve as a consultant on the Kimyal Old Testament Translation Project, and Orin will disciple current and future Kimyal leaders. After the initial nine month period in Papua, the Kidd’s plan to move to six month rotations between the States and Indonesia.

When the Kidd’s are in the States their desire is to use their passion, gifting and experience in missions to serve local churches in a “mobilization” ministry. The aim of this ministry is to come alongside of local churches to help them move through the process of becoming more strategically involved in outreach both locally and globally. This ministry might include speaking at local church mission conferences, leading seminars on relevant mission topics, organizing and participation in regional mission events, teaching Perspective classes, etc.
As to on-going involvement at GBF, Orin will continue to give oversight to the global outreach ministry of GBF, and serve as an elder.

For most of the 48 years that Orin and Rosa have been married they have served the Lord in missions. The journey has been incredible beyond anything they could have imagined when they came to Christ back in 1971. As they take this next step of faith, they do so with a great sense of anticipation.

Orin and Rosa will be on a ministry trip to Papua, Indonesia, from August 28, 2017 to May10, 2018. Their prayer requests include:

  • Pray for wisdom as the Kidd’s make final preparation for leaving for Papua, August 28.
  • Pray for Orin as he preaches at a Kimyal Church area conference September 18-23.
  • Pray for Rosa as she serves as a consultant on to the Old Testament translation project and for translation team unity.
  • Pray that the transition back to life at Korupun and the Kimyal language would be smooth

“…for the sake of His name among the nations.”
