Orin & Rosa Kidd

Kidd Family

Orin and Rosa came to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ in 1971. At that time Orin was working with the United States Forest Service on the Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon. From the very outset of their new faith in Christ, there was a strong desire to serve the Lord in a cross-cultural context amongst people who had not yet had the opportunity to hear the gospel. In order to prepare for cross-cultural ministry, Orin and Rosa attended Prairie Bible College from 1972 to 1976.

In 1975, Orin and Rosa became members of World Team (at the time Regions Beyond Missionary Union), and in 1977, following graduation from Prairie and linguistic training at the University of Washington, the Kidd’s, along with their two sons, left for Irian Jaya, Indonesia, (now West Papua) where they spent 22 years working with the Kimyal tribe in the Eastern Highlands.
Orin’s ministry included church planting, discipleship, leadership development, and four and a half years as Field Director. Rosa was involved in women’s ministry and literacy work. In 1994, Rosa took responsibility for the translation of the Kimyal New Testament, completing the translation in November of 2009. The New Testament Dedication took place on March 16, 2010 (a 10 minute version of a 30 minute DVD documenting the NT dedication can be found on youtube under “Kimyal New Testament”).

After 30 years with World Team, Orin and Rosa resigned from World Team to begin a new ministry role as the Pastor of Global Outreach at Grace Bible Fellowship in Tangent, Oregon, where they have served for 11 years. Orin is also teaching a mission class at Corban University. The Kidd’s are now in the process of transitioning from a paid staff position with GBF to a “GBF Sent Missionary” status.

In their new ministry focus, Orin and Rosa, plan to spend two to three consecutive months a year in Papua, Indonesia, where Rosa will serve as a consultant on the Kimyal Old Testament Translation Project, and Orin will disciple current and future Kimyal leaders.

On the home end, the Kidd’s desire to use their passion, gifting and experience in missions to serve local churches in a “mobilization” ministry. The aim of this ministry is to come alongside of local churches to help them move through the process of becoming more strategically involved in outreach both locally and globally. This ministry includes speaking at local church mission conferences, leading seminars on relevant mission topics, organizing and participation in regional mission events, teaching Perspective classes, etc.

Orin will continue teaching a mission class at Corban, and hopes to increase involvement with students from Papua, who are attending Corban and Oregon State Universities.
As to on-going involvement at GBF, Orin will continue to give oversight to the global outreach ministry of GBF, and serve as an elder.

For most of the 48 years that Orin and Rosa have been married they have served the Lord in missions. The journey has been incredible beyond anything they could have imagined when they came to Christ back in 1971. As they take this next step of faith, they do so with a great sense of anticipation.

Orin and Rosa will be on a ministry trip to Papua, Indonesia, from June 28 to August 8. Their prayer requests include:

  • Pray for God’s leading with respect to a possible trip to Israel with a group of Papuan Christians. This is to take place in December 2016.
  • Pray for a church leadership conference that is being planned for May 2017. Orin will be doing a week of preaching and teaching aimed at all the Kimyal tribal church leadership.
  • Pray for Rosa as she continues to serve as a consultant on to the Old Testament translation project.

“…for the sake of His name among the nations.”
